Thanks, after reading up on the different units, I decided that a combo sewing machine/serger might be too involved for my skill level. This is just high tech enough to get me trying new things but not so technical that I'm frozen with fear of turning it on.

Kathy - that first machine you were looking it has a review of being a piece of junk. The serger part was a foot with a blade on it that doesn't work very well. YOU did MUCH better with this machine.
Now, what are you going to make?
(and the serger, I have one now, but sewed quite well without one for a whole lot of years. My serger is a Babylock Imagin and cost about $800 used. Yeah, I have some $$ in my sewing stuff. But this serger has really really simple air threading for the loopers so I don't cuss it. I would not have a regular serger cause I've been too many places where only one person out of 20 holding their mouth just right could do the bottom loopers on a cheap serger. I also had a 1/2 day class on it.)

I've got a bunch of new patterns just waiting for my attempts. I am going to be making retro style aprons for a craft show. I've made aprons before & know I'm good at making those. I also need to make some pet accessories for the same craft show-luckily it's in the fall. I also have patterns for toddler costumes-skunk, lion, panda & 2 others that I can't remember. My biggest challenge is going to be making a robe & matching pj's. I found really cute material with frogs & hearts on a pale green background for the top & I chose a medium jade green for the pants. The robe will be a pale green with a few jade contrasting accents. This robe & pj's if for me!! ;D

the aprons sound neat.
And so does all the rest of the items you have lined up.
I need to get off the computer and work on 2 ice skating competition dresses for two weeks from now.
We do want to see photos of your accomplishments!
