birdhouses?

i wasn't sure which board to put this on.

anyway, here is the deal. i finished building 7 birdhouses. my problem is what do i mount them on. i wanted to use galvanized fence posts and put some Vaseline on the poles to keep critters from climbing up the poles. but the poles are just to expensive to justify the purchase for birdhouses.

should i just mount them on trees? any ideas?

What kind of birds are you hoping to attract to your new birdhouses? The types of birds will set the requirements for getting 'renters'

I used PVC set over a Tpost as the for my wren houses when I lived in WI.

i made 2 wren houses, 2 bluebird houses, 2 chickadee houses and 1 owl house.

the bat house will be next.

the pvc solution sounds like it would work good. i may still use the galvinized poles for the owl house. if i remember right it needs to be mounted 15+ feet high.

I have one mounted on an iron post. The other 3 are hanging from trees using fishing line.

i see alot of blue bird houses put on fence posts alot the county roads here. about 1/8th mile apart

All the Specs for Building Birdhouses
Various species of birds prefer birdhouses of certain sizes.

Of course, you will want to make the entrance hole large enough for the type of bird you wish to nest in it.
The hole needs to be ONLY that size since larger holes invite predators (birds, squirrels, etc.) to invade the box, either killing the chicks or taking over the box and evicting the previous residents.
