I took my canner's pressure gauge to the local extension office to be tested today and discovered that it's two pounds off.
My canner is only two years old and the woman said every new or newer gauge she's tested has been at least two pounds off. Most were about two pounds but some were up to five pounds.
Please, everyone, have your gauge checked each year!

That's a good tip Via, I'm glad you found out before you canned anything and ended up having it spoil or worse make someone sick.
I have the weighted gauge so I don't have that worry but many of my friends have the dials-I'll be sure to pass on the news.

Mine has both, but to be honest, I'm not familiar with the weighted gauge, so I watch the dial. I found out that our extension office DOES check the gauges, so I need to take it in and do that here pretty soon. Just as soon as I clean all the cat pee off the canner. I'll take it in and have it checked the same day I take that blasted tomcat in to have his nuts removed! ~Lannie
