hiya i thought i would share this recipe that has been kept in my family for years. my nan used to make this when i was a tiny kid, and i think she used it back in the war days.
bread pudding
soak stale bread in a bowl of water until its soggy (or overnight), drain excess water. 1 teaspoon of suet for every slice of bread used. a handfull of mixed fruit. 1 egg. mix the above into a pulpy mass.
put in 1 greased shallow tin and cook for 30 minutes on a medium heat, check and cook to taste. (should be crisp on the outside). add suger on top.
can be eaten hot from oven or allowed to cool.
(warning)a heavy solid food, so small slices.

This is also a great recipe
BREAD PUDDING
5 or 6 slices of bread (I love multi-grain in this)
2 cups milk
1 cup sugar (I use about 2/3 cup)
2 eggs
1/3 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Nutmeg to taste (I use just a little, pinch)
Cinnamon to taste (at least 1/2 teaspoon)
Tear bread into pieces and put in baking dish. Mix and add the
rest of the ingredients and stir well with spoon. Bake at 350 degrees
for approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour. You want it to "set".
SAUCE
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar (I use about 2/3 cup or less)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 TBSP flour
1/3 cup butter
Put all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil; boil for 3 minutes.
When the pudding is done, using a fork, poke some holes in the top of
it and pour the hot sauce on top.
Yummy, Fattening, use only butter for a rich dessert.
I tried using the Amaretto Coffee Mate (liquid) in this sauce and it is awesome. Use in place of the milk and omit the vanilla.
