This is a outstanding place to get very good homestead items. I buy the furniture polish from them.. have their brooms and an Axe my husband can't kill and you can keep an edge on it. That in itself is impressive. Very much recommend them. So order a Catalog! www.lehmans.com/

I can certainly recommend them for quality and selection, but not on price. They are pretty near always the most expensive option. Now, when you need/want the item real bad you'll take it at any price, but for things you can find elsewhere, you'll find it cheaper (the same item).
But yes, quality is top and the selection is amazing. My spring catalogue came last week and I'm working on Mom's Christmas List.

In 30+ years I haven't found a better furniture polish..love theirs.
I've bought lamps, tools, cookware and cleaning supplies from them over the years..have never been sorry..I'll pay more money for quality personally because it lasts much longer than "cheap"..

Oh, they've certainly got great stuff, don't get me wrong. I merely object to paying a premium, and I'm not talking about a quality tool versus a "cheap" tool. I'm talking the exact same item. When I bought my pressure washer I went to Lehman's first; wound up buying the exact same washer elsewhere at 20% below Lehman's price. I dunno, it seems they might be going the way of MEN and stuff that used to be a "tool" is now a yuppified "toy" and they figure that into the cost.
They have a lot to recommend. I've bought from them before and I'll buy from them again... but first I check prices.

I noticed that in their online catalog, many of the useful, homesteader type items aren't listed anymore. More of the high quality but novelty type items seem to be featured. One thing I did when I lived closer to an Amish community was try to find the Amish stores & hardwares-I bought my 20 qt heavy, really heavy SS stock pot from them for $44 and there was no shipping or wait time. ;D I know in KY, Roys Country Store sold a lot of the same items that Lehmans did and most of the time at a 15% discount from the catalog prices-plus no shipping! ;D Like everyone else, I've had great service and quality from Lehmans, but if I can save a few dollars on the same brand/quality I will. I bought a Pioneer Maid wood cookstove from Lehmans and had no shipping delays; so I have to give them high marks for their order & shipping departments too. Chili, I don't know if you'll have an Amish store in your new area, but I know WI and MN had quite a number of them when I lived up there-worth checking out for both hard goods and all of your bulk foods!

Living where I do...knowing what the so called Quailty of the tools they have around here. There is nothing here to compair.
Let me just say,,, my Hubby can kill tools in a snap. Give him a week to a day..and they are broken and can't be fixed.
Lehmans tools we have had for years..and they are holding up really, really well.
In the long run it is saving us a lot of money.
Chilli, So you can find the exact same tools and stuff they carry else where? Please tell me where!
Kathy,, you need to get their printed catalogue.

AuntieEmu, Lehman's is in Kidron, OH. Most folk shop their catalogue or the website.
Bergere, the hunt to find the thing I need (and found at Lehman's, which means good quality) usually involves some digging. It's a lot like seeing the 25cu. ft. freezer I want at Sears marked up too high, and then having to track down every appliance store in the area to find the same cheaper. There's Cumberland General - which you probably know about - BerryHill (in Canada - the exchange favors us), and some survivalist sites online, depending on what I'm looking for. Plus, I call up the home folks and ask them to look for it the next time they go to the Ranch & Home. Sometimes they find it and it's cheaper, even with shipping, than Lehman's. And sometimes I can't find it cheaper or can't find it anywhere else at all, but that's why I get the catalogue in the first place. Lehman's big grain mill is on my list of things to get ASAP, as is the pressure canner (exact one I wanted, good price) but I'm getting a new cream seperator sent to me by my sister; half the price of Lehman's, five bucks more on the shipping, guaranteed quality.

GOOD stuff at Lehman's but it's quite a different place and price than it was in the 70's. I agree with going TMEN. But if you can't find it anywhere else, there you are. They occasionally have some really good bargains. I bought my Alladin lamp there on sale for $38 last year!

I am lucky to live near Lehman's. It's about 5 miles from me. Over the past several years it has become very touristy and I think they are capitalizing on that. I like the quality of stuff, however, even though a bit pricey. It's a really neat store to visit. They have a LOT more stuff in their store than what they show online.

Niki you are lucky to live that close to them. Though sorry to hear it is getting touristy. I just hope they keep the good quality products they have been selling.

Bergere, I think they will *have* to keep the quality available. They still supply to the Amish community - which is either the largest or one of the largest - in the country. As long as the Amish keep buying (rather than going to the big box stores), I think we're safe.
