I took a load of posts to the local sale today and boy did they sell good. I had the best posts there I was able to buy 1800 bd ft of rough cut oak and walnut lumber for 1/3 of its value. this purchace will save me 60% on the cost of my house I also got the perfect windows for the house for 8.00 ea. and a huge roll of woven wire that I will turn into tomato cages. the locals were even tolorable. I think I even got a complement. I overheard an old guy say " he cuts pretty good posts for a queer" I got a few looks when I got there, so when I unloaded the big 500# corner posts I sucked it up and made it look like I was tossing them around. I can do it but I shure will pay for it tomorrow. Its been a good day. I think I will have a root beer and celibrate

Sounds like grudging admiration..... you are re-educating the locals who think gay means whimp.
So are you going to start work on the house soon? And will it have electricity or are you going for the cast iron woodburning cook stove with low and high closets and a large reservoir?

I will be starting soon on the house. it will not have electric or water. but about 50 yrds from the house will be a small building that is below the pond and will be hooked up to pond water for bathing. I will rig up a filter system of some sort.
Im not sure but I think I got hit on today. I must be getting old when it takes 5 hrs. to finaly figure it out. he is about 30yrs old and cute as a bug. he has two gay uncles, one on each side of the family. geneticly he doesnt have a chance ;D
he kept tagging me around wanting to talk, and was full of questions. I was so worryed what people would think of me talking to a young guy I almost acted like i was avoiding him.
It would be just like me to not even see what is right in front of me

Good for you Bob! That's a great find! And I know it has to be such a relief that you are getting started on your house. As for the "boy"...he'll be there. Who knows, hard to get might be working for you... LOL Personally, I've never understood why people equate gay with...wimp or stupid or any other derogatory term. I guess since I grew up with several in my family, it's such a surprise. Only one cousin would you be able to call wimp...but he's incredibly smart. The others could take on a bull and win.

Gee Bob..read your own tag line.. "wouldnt mind finding a like minded farm boy to help me celebrate"
Glad you had such good luck today. It sure is nice when you score a bargain on something you really need. We bought alot of the stuff in this house at surplus & auction sales. We bought most of our windows and doors years before we even had a floor plan or even land. It all came together beautifully.

Maybe he just thought you were playing hard-to-get, Bob, and that's not always a bad thing. ;D Deb

Bob, make up some business cards for the post business with your name, address & phone number on them. ;D Next time a cute, young, friendly guy makes small talk or gives the impression he might be interested-just give him your card. That way if he's not interested in a friendship, there's no awkward moments since the cards are about your business but if he is interested-he'll have your number. Do we need to come to IA and help you get back on the dating train?? I hear IA is beautiful in the spring!

Do we need to come to IA and help you get back on the dating train?? I hear IA is beautiful in the spring! Well, Kathy, just teasing, but if you are coming to Iowa to help Bob, I so need help in that area, also, Kathy. We'll have you going back and forth across the state, and yes, it is beautiful once things turn green. Any day now, I hope. ;D Deb

Maybe we need a net on that hat to catch things that go over your head......
Just walk up and ask him if he knows the secret handshake or not. If he laughs and says yes, you will know and if he says 'huh'? or 'what?' you have the option of either explaining it to him or saying nevermind.

bob, sounds like you had a great day.
i also what you to know not all straight guys have a bad opinion of gay men.
i'm straight and still i'm offended when gay men don't hit on me. what i'm not good enough for them. ;D
maybe he was just looking for a friend, as you've pointed out the locals don't appear to be very accepting. you may not be the only one having trouble fitting in.

you all crack me up I can hold my own when it comes to dating in the city, but when it comes to where I was raised I just assume everyone is strait I guess. he may have just been being freindly. maybe it is a little wishfull thinking on my part as far as dating goes. I need to get a few things done first, like get estblished on my 80 ac. first. I know I cant wait for ever. my classic good looks are starting to fade with time Ohh, dirty dont worry, the gay guys that you run into are probly shy like me. buy them a beer or two and Im bet you get hitt on ;D
