I've noticed that there seems to be a spike in the prices of old homesteading tools--like crosscut saws, old axes, drawknifes, scythes, etc., but especially crosscut saws in particular. Anyone else notice this? I bought some time back a nice 3 foot logging crosscut saw (one person saw) for about $20. I was looking today at a yard sale very close that had some tools and they were getting a lot more than I'm used to seeing. Check ebay today too and wow! I'm seeing 40-60 dollars for saws I could of gotten for 20-30 a few months ago! Anyone else notice this? Seems the non-user collectors are out in droves trying to get them to hang up on a wall somewhere. I'm glad I almost have all the tools I'll need for when I get a homestead, and I'm glad what I still need to get (misc. small items) won't be too expensive. I just could not believe those prices for rusty saws that need cleaning and sharpening still.

I noticed when I took my Mum to a few antique shops that ANYTHING old was outrageously priced. Mind you, I live in an area where the "hoity toity" folks will dish out that kind of cash. But I was seeing stuff like $750 for a rather cruddy like side table that I could throw together myself with old barn board. Also $400 for a little creamic bowl. IMO Ebay is just nuts! I think it's another case of "what the market will bear". Kind of bites for those of us who want these things to USE, not decorate with.

I know a friend in Tonasket WA, no longer looks for old Farm tools. The collectors have made it so it is the same price or cheaper to buy the items new! Scary!!! She bought them to use them for what they were made for. Can no longer do so. Sure doesn't help the farmer.
