I'm going to look for property along the southern shore of lake superior, Wisconsin and upper Michigan. can anybody tell me of their experiences or thoughts about living in that area?

Would it seem too bold to say " Take me, Take me" ? I was raised in MI and spent the most time living in WI. I absolutely love the people, the scenery and oh the fishing. Lake trout, muskies, strippers, walleye.... ;D Of course, most years there's normally a huge amount of snow in northern WI but if you like winter weather and are mentally prepared to be snowed in for a few days each winter-I think it's about the closest thing to Heaven on Earth as I've ever found. Don't get me wrong; WI and I'm sure MI has problems; a lot of 'rules' many of which don't make a lot of sense but the land, water, actually the whole environment is very conducive to living a homestead lifestyle. Good Luck if you do decide to move up there; I'll admit I'm a bit envious of your future plans. take me take me!!! lol... I'm a troll (lives under the Big Mac) but lived in the up years ago... near Crystal falls. It's peacefull, good hunting and fishing, but short growing seasons, so that takes planning... the area and the people are "Homesteader friendly" though. ;D You are lucky to be heading that way!! I been wanting to move back for years...... Kaza

looks like I'll have to trade my truck in for a van, so everybody can come along. yea, I've thought about the short growing season. but like you said just need to plan for it. my biggest fear about moving to that area, is lack of work. i have enough of a 'grub stake' to get by for awhile. i really don't like traveling to work construction.

What kind of work do you do? Kaza
i run heavy equipment. more specifically i run a blade. i just got back from my three day trip to iron county. i looked at a bunch of properties. i may go back up Monday to double check one of the properties, I'm interested in. this looking for properties has so many ups and downs. I'm going to refrain from specifics until I'm well through closing on a property. too many daydreams made and :-*dashed so quickly, if you know what i mean.

Good Luck in your search. Just remember if you move to WI-lutefisk is not good batter fried & the locals don't find it funny when you say lefse is just like a potato based tortilla.
