I think most of us believe in being stocked up on the basics for those 'just in case' times but what one or few items do you absolutely make sure you have in your stock?
For me it's toilet paper &canned milk. I don't know why but those are the first things I notice when they get below a 6 mos supply. ;D

Toilet paper, soap, bandages, pain meds and the like. Food, rice, dried flaked potatoes, self rising flour, shortening, tea, at least a side of beef in the freezer(good only if power doesn't go out for a long time),Can goods, those kind of things. Food for the animals.
Though we are low on just about everything right now.

Our family is a meat, potato, veggy family so I make sure the freezers are full, I have a few cases of canned potato's since none of us like flaked potatos (plus I hate peeling potato's and this makes it so easy to make any kind of potato dish), and a few cases of corn. Propane, gas, kerosine are always stocked up. You know what I lack? CASH!! Our money is in the bank, and I am trying to convert to having cash only and not use a bank but it is so hard for me. If the shtf, I'm going to be up the creek without a paddle for money.

Sugar, salt, pepper, rice, beans, and various meats. With those I can feed the family for weeks, maybe months. Toilet paper and feminine napkins. I'm absolutely paranoid about those. Almost as bad about Aspirin.

It's so funny how most listed toliet paper For us, water, water and more water. It's amazing how much one goes through and you don't realize it till you're out. And when you have livestock it even worse. We now have it in bottles and gallon jugs and always top off waters outside in the morning and evening. For us water, cash, gasoline, toliet paper, canned food, tea bags and sugar.

Yup. Toilet Paper. Dish Soap, Ibuprophen, G.I. meds, vinegar, baking soda, canned tomatoes, canned green beans (I have 2 cases usually), triple antibiotic ointment (I typically have 3-4 tubes at all times) Dental floss (strange OCD), deoderant, conditioner, feminine supplies, bullion, ranch dressing and chewing gum.
We stay stocked as we can but these are the thing I get kinda kooky if I feel we're too low on. I think we all have our comfort items we associate with being 'okay'. Given my comfort items I obviously have a screw loose! LOL

Toilet Paper for sure for me also and paper towels. I always but the 12 or larger at Sams or Wal-Mart. If they run 1/2 out I am getting more.

Toilet paper is #1 with all the kids. I have a pantry full of homecanned items. We also keep the freezer full of meat. It's getting low now, but we have a beef & 2 hogs going in in January & February. I just put 30 chickens in the freezer & will buy some turkeys while they are on sale. I also keep yeast, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, & other baking items. This way I could make our bread if needed. Or doughnuts, rolls, whatever. I also have milk frozen just in case. I like to keep enough on hand of everything to last 4 months at least.

Ammo, booze and cigarettes, oh my!
Well, it's true...
And Manicmommy hit the nail on the head with the ranch dressing.
I have a bunch of black beans and lentils. Like a LOT. And whenever I see the containers, I think, "What an idiot. If it ever gets down to black beans and lentils, life's not gonna be worth living." So I've got to build up the canned goods and other more palatable supplies.
For a more likely scenario 'round here--power loss due to ice storms or weather, or maybe 'quakes or volcanic mayhem, I'm glad I have lots of fuel for my campstove(s). Instant potatoes and rice are great for quick and easy hot carbs, as is Cream of Wheat (comfort food, too). I like to have lots of that. Plus, cans of green beans are easily rotated around here, as are fresh potatoes and yams. I always like to have at least a month's supply of dog food, cat food, bird and chicken food, plus canned pet food beyond that (dry dog/cat food goes rancid if stored too long). Otherwise, it's the usual kosher salt, TP, girlie supplies, flour, grains and whatever satisfies my frequent vac sealing binges.
