If someone wants to hook up to the internet while in an RV or at a location without a phone lines that's when satellite internet comes in right? But how does it work? Where do you even find a provider? Is it reliable? Will it work across the country-so if you're on vacation will it work in WA as well as NC?? Any help would be appreciated.

I am not real up to date with some of my info for sat internet but I will give ya what I got while I take a look into and see what may have changed.
Most Sat internets require a phone line also as you only receive over the sat but you send of the phone(now that being said there are some sat internets now that have 2 way over the sat but that isnt for all areas yet) For an rv it is not that difficult a thing to do as most rv parks now have phone lines to the site. But most rv parks will now also have broadband internet to the site also. as for just using it anywhere, it has not gotten to that stage yet everywhere so it will be kinda hit or miss(not real sure why its not everywhere yet. If the sat is pointed at the us you would think that it shoud work). Plus the other thing with sat internet is its cost. It is not a very cost effective internet. as it can cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 a month. The only sat internet provider that I can think of right off the top of my head is Direcway(linked to Directv). Hope that helps you some.

you purchased your modem and equipment didnt you? I was just looking at the pricing list. It seems like the prices are comeing down some. it is now only 100 if you "rent" your modem from direcway.

The whole package is $599.98 with a $100.00 rebate right now. You get the satellite dish, modem ( DW7000 ) and installation for that price. Then it either costs you $59.99 a month or $69.99 a month for the service. But the dish and modem is yours to keep till death due you part. You don't rent anything.
I like Direcway since they have went hardware. When they were just the Dish and Software, what a freakin nightmare that was. They don't have good software people.
And be prepared to talk to India if you ever need help. They are about clueless. But luckily with the set up they have now, you really don't need to talk to India. Thank Goodness.
I like it. But considering the alternative, anything is better than my dial up.

I forgot. I have some friends that travel with their Direcway and they have no problem. They live 70 miles from me ( approx ), and they actually get better speed than I do. But they are pointed in a different direction and they are on a different wave Length or frequency. And too, the husband ( who died last year ) knew how to connect the dish and point it and fine tune it, so they didn't need help on the road for their dish. I don't know what you would do if you needed help on hooking it up while traveling on the road. But yeah, it should work no matter where you travel with it in the USA, as long as you don't have trees or buildings blocking you. Give them a call. It's free. 9am to midnight ET 888-667-5537 You should get the USA on this phone call . Doesn't hurt to call and ask them questions. Get it straight from the horses mouth. So to speak.
