A bus (pathway) on a computer motherboard that allows a more direct access path to the processor for a limited number of devices. For example, a video card plugged into a slot in the local bus should produce good video playback because it has a direct connection to the microprocessor. Most new computers have both a local bus and a regular expansion bus.
