I decided to cancel the order for my chicks. Between some health issues that got worse over the weekend and Buddy planning on keeping the raccoon even after it gets older-getting chickens seemed like a bad move right now. I'll just have to enjoy everybody elses until I can make the move to my land.

Oh No! I'm so sorry Kathy that things didn't turn out for you....I knew how excited you were. (((((Kathy)))))
Just out of curiosity....why the heck does Buddy want a adult raccoon?!

Oh No! I'm so sorry Kathy that things didn't turn out for you....I knew how excited you were. (((((Kathy))))) Just out of curiosity....why the heck does Buddy want a adult raccoon?! I have no idea, all I get when I ask that question is 'he's so cute'. Yes, he is adorable right now when he's only about a pound but male raccoons can reach 35#! Buddy has this little 13yr old tiny toy poodle named Ginger and she weighs 4#. I'm so afraid that once 'Vernon' is bigger, he will kill that little, frail dog. I just feel defeated right now, I so wanted my chicks but feel it would be cruel to bring them here knowing they'll be fenced in munchies. Life happens, I will be on my own place someday-that plan keeps me going.

That's thinking positive! You WILL have it all someday, and someday always comes faster then we think. Just got to take one day at a time. Pretty soon your garden will be keeping you so busy that it will be fall before you know it...see how fast it is going to go?

would it be possible to find three or four full grown hens.
you would still get eggs. it would be a lot less work to just have a few..
their coop would be small. this would make it easier to secure. and it could be small enough to move.

That's an idea Dirty, I'll check around and see if there's any hens for sale. The yard is all done & the coop is about 1/2 done since it's a redo of the open garage.
