They are great in making homemade wine, as someone already suggested. But, there are recipes for strawberry and mulberry pies and jams! An old lady in very rural Tennesssee gave me a recipe for using mulberries and strawberries together on a pie and it is good!
She told me that they used to use mulberries in any recipe that called for strawberries! She said that when she was a kid, they used to go out and picjk the little wild strawberries and as they were so small, they added mulberries to the pies to make them go farther so there was enough for all of the family!
But, one had to make sure that they picked those little stems off and remembered that mulberries have a higher sugar content, seeds and a more delicate flavor than strawberries. You can adjust the recipes for this.
I have dried them before and used them in winter muffins, using a recipe for either strawberry muffins or blueberries.
I used to eat them by handfuls as a kid....I would ride the horse under the tree and stand on her back to pick them....we also had a cat loved to eat mulberries! At my grandparent's farm, there was a large tree that produced white mulberries....I used to think that it was magickal, as it was a big tree that I could climb and it had white berries!
