Millie kept scratching and scratching, I knew she didn’t have fleas. I thought she was allergic to grass because she has been in the past. I called the vet he told me to give her Benadril (ms) once a day. Her scratching got worse. It was driving me nuts I know it was her. Her belly was red. I ended up taking her to the vet. He said she is beyond Benadril this time. I had to get her a shot. She is highly allergic to grass this year. When she goes out she starts sneezing and she also licks her feet a lot. Every time she goes out I have to go with her to make sure she doesn’t lie down in the grass. Then as soon as we get in the house I have to wipe her feet off with a baby wipe. If the grass touches any part of her body I have to wipe it off with a baby wipe. He said I would probley have to do this all summer. It sure is a lot of trouble but I will do it for her. I feel sorry for her because she loves it outside, she will lay by the back door waiting for me to let her out. She just doesn’t understand why she can’t go outside. The other day I had to do some yard work. I just let her go out with me. After she seen she didn’t have to go in right away she started running around the yard like she was let out of prison. It was so funny. But, as soon as we got back in the house I gave her a bath. She was so happy because she got to spend a few minutes outside. Has anyone else got a dog that is allergic to grass?

Starfire I never heard of a grass allergy before. Poor little gal, she is such a cute baby. I wonder if you could get some 'grass carpet' and put it down in an area outside so she could enjoy the fresh air without touching the grass. Lowes and Home Depot used to sell it pretty cheap. I love her expression; she has that 'gotta love me' expression down to a science.

Aw, how can you not feel sorry for that face! I have never heard of that either. Do you fertilize your grass, or put any weed killer on it? I know some people do that, and maybe that is what she is allergic too. Poor doggy... You are a great dog Mom for helping Millie with this allergy!

Na, I don't do anything to the grass. I have heard other dogs allergic to grass but not this bad. You do what y ou have to do for your babies.

she looks like a small enough dog that you could put her outside in a baby crib.
or some kind of small enclosure set on an piece of indoor/outdoor carpet. like kathy mentioned.
not the perfect solution. at least it would extend the time she gets to stay outside with you.

Starfire, how much does Millie weigh? She looks so tiny in that picture, like she's only 5-6#.
Is there some sort of series of allergy shots she can take to decrease her reaction to the grass? I know there's series of shots some people get to help with allergies to certain pollens and such, I just don't know if they do that for dogs.

She weighs 24 pounds she is over weight about 4 lbs but we are working on that. Well, sometimes. I like the indoor outdoorr carpet idea. I got her a shot 2 weeks ago it was $55. I just can't do that every 2 weeks with all the doc bills and hospital bills I will be haveing coming up. She seems to be doing some what better. I still wipe her down everything we go outside.

She sure doesn't look that big! I guess she's just a compact little gal who hides her weight well. ;D
Wow, at $55 a shot, that could add up fast. I hope the shot plus the wipe downs will work so she can get by on just benedryl if it bothers her in the future.
