Most everything is sprouted!! yay! I get so jealous of all you that are already picking stuff! Hard to believe in a couple weeks this will all be lush and green. LOL (I didn't take pics of the asparagus... it's just roots in the ground so far) I took pics of some of the stuff... will take more pics later, of the rest of it. My onions and brusselsprouts (some of the beets might show also):A diffrent view of the onions, brussel sprouts and some beets. (the first row of beets planted shows real well, the others not so well)My poor maters... lost the first planting to a freeze, so this is round 2. Cabbage, radishes, carrots etc... My pole beans... and a bit of the last batch of corn planted in the background Compared to most of your gardens, mine is just starting. lol Try to ignore the weeds, has been raining a week and half here, today the sun shined for a lil bit before the thunderstorms are sposed to move in again for another week. :frown2: Kaza

You're garden's farther along than mine is! I'll have to post some pics so you can see how lucky you are! LOL! At least I have some "dead" stuff that seems to have revived and is growing again. Pretty soon it will look very nice.
OH! I found a volunteer radish in the pathway yesterday morning while I was weeding so I ate it! It's always the first thing you get to eat, isn't it? Radishes!

OK, here ya go, Kaza! Here are a couple views from the gate. Not much detail, but you can see the layout. These are my (future) green beans. I have 3 (count 'em three!) sprouts so far. All that green in the middle is a combination of grass and dill that must have come from last year's plants. My wimpy chard... What's left of all my gorgeous cucumber seedlings (not much). I planted a bunch more seeds, but only have a few sprouts from that so far. The lettuce and cabbage are doing well. There are some green onions planted between the rows, but they're still too thin to see in a picture. New Zealand spinach... This is 18 little rows of carrots, turnips, radishes, rutabagas, and parsnips. Only a few tiny sprouts so far. Some of it might have washed away in the flooding, though. The squash I was convinced was dead, but has resurrected itself! My peas and turnips. The peas aren't doing so well, but I have enough freaking turnips to feed an army! The raised herb bed which seems to have mostly recovered from the hail. My patch of elecampane and burdock (boy I need to start working on the surrounding weeds!). I guess I must not have taken pics of the tomatoes. Maybe I was too embarrassed at the weeds. I have two of the three tomato beds weeded now, as well as most of the other stuff in the above pics, so once I get all the mulch down and it looks a little better, I'll show you the sad little tomatoes. They're coming back, though, so I should have at least a moderate haul of maters. Now, don't you feel better, Kaza? ~Lannie

I've only got tomatos that survived, but they are not going to do anything. Weather did not cooperate and they are yellow and bent over...pathetic! Even the stores around here are selling all the tomato plants for 25 cents because they are so pathetic no one wants them. All the gardens are looking so good in the pics kaza and Lannie! Enjoy the veggies you will get.

Wow Lannie!!! I feel bad for you all over again. I'd be getting frustrated. I love to garden, and every year, this is the hard part. lol Do you still have time for it all to grow? I do admit though, when the thread about "second veggie" started, and folks were posting what they are eating outta their gardens, ... I *almost* posted that I had eaten something from mine to!! (A few onion greens in chicken salad) BBird... any way you could do container gardening? I just love fresh home-veggies. I think with as much shade as you have, things like spinach, lettuce, peas etc may do OK at your place. Kaza

Yeah, Kaza, kind of pitiful, isn't it? I HOPE I have time for it all to mature before first frost! Actually, with the recent warm weather and sunshine, stuff's starting to grow really well now. It's been 80 to 85 during the days and only 50 to 60 at night, so conditions are good for a burst of new growth. I'll take some more pics in a few days - I think there should be quite a bit of improvement by then. Deb, I second the container gardening idea, and the cool-weather/shade-tolerant stuff. You might do better than you think, if you make a plan! ~Lannie

I got my tomato beds weeded and finally remembered to go take a couple of pictures of them! (OK, I didn't weed the pathways, because I was tired!) The weird part is, all the tomatoes I'd started from seed that I planted out before I should have and that were suffering from the cold and wet, are now gorgeous, and the ones I bought at the store and planted 2 weeks ago look like they want to croak! LOL! Here's one of the new ones: And right next to it is one of the ones I was sure was going to die: The light's not too good on these, I should have waited for evening or morning, but I think you can see the difference. Weird, huh? I guess it really is true: Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger! LOL! I didn't take a picture, but there's a couple of tiny little leaves, only about 1/4", growing out of the top of a completely yellow, dead tomato stem. I was positive THAT one was a goner, but it's growing again. Probably won't make any tomatoes, but it's got new leaves! ~Lannie

WOW! Look how much bigger everything is! That's unbelievable! Got a short growing season, so everything knows it has to grow faster, eh? Here's some more of mine, it's getting a little bigger, but not as big as yours! LOL! The chard's a bit bigger: The lettuce and cabbage are beautiful (I'm really proud of these!): The turnips and peas: Yes, there actually ARE a few peas in that mess! The squash, some of which have flower buds on them, small as they are: The peppers (also a few flowers): The tomatoes. All of them have flowers now, even though they're still pretty small. It might not be a HUGE harvest, but at least I'll get some tomatoes out of this! And the herb bed - this stuff is growing like mad, and I need to go start harvesting already: At least everything is growing! ~Lannie

Wow, look at 'em go! And all those onions! The one time I tried to grow onions, they didn't do very well. I got a couple that were a little bigger than golf balls... Maybe I didn't have ENOUGH! What kind are they, Kaza?

What kind are they, Kaza? ~Lannie The onions are both red and yellows. There's 500 of them buggers.. (and what a pain to plant!) lol If you snip off the seed pods, the bulbs will get bigger... then, when they start to sorta "fall over" ya step on them (or in my case, roll em with a 55 gal drum) and the bulbs will get even bigger yet. Next year I am planting a kind that is known to store easily 10-11 months. Yellows store pretty well, but I'd say typically 7-8 months. The reds don't store long at all, so there's only 50 of those. I had planted reds (Rich and I both like the sweeter onions, and we live in the wrong climate for them!). I can't remember how many there were, but one of those little net bags full of sets you get at the farm stores. Maybe 50? Anyway, they didn't all come up, so I probably only had about 20 that made tops. I did snip the flower stalks off, but I didn't know about stepping on them back then. I pulled mine when the tops started to yellow and die, and they were still little.
Well, maybe next year, I'll try again and see what happens. I can always use the yellow onions in cooking, and for fresh eating, I guess we could continue to just buy the sweet ones.

Kaza...I am GREEN with envy over your gorgeous garden! I sure hope that next year mine does a little better. I haven't ever had this much trouble growing anything before! Your corn is sooooo pretty! I don't usually miss Oklahoma much...except for my old garden spot with the GREAT sandy loam! Thanks for letting me peek at your garden!
