I made a comment to a friend the other day that I had so much stuff I plan to sew, but it wasn't sewing season yet. She was perplexed. Am I the only one that sews etc mostly in the wintertime? In the summer, I do outdoor things (gardening, critters etc) Kaza

Sewing & crafts in general are wintertime activities for me. Besides having a lot of other things to do like gardening & canning, I don't like having fabric draped over my legs when I'm so warm.

My sewing season is 13 months long.... It's my sanity. I do lighter weight yarn/thread crochet in the summer and more yarn/afghan type stuff in cooler weather. Also, lighter cottons in summerish and maybe more cordrory type in the cooler weather. It's always sewing season at my house Angie

I sew in the winter months as a rule....I like the feel of a quilt in the making draped around me while I sit in front of the woodstove and I sometimes 'listen' to a movie on the tv.
In the summers when it is TOO HOT to do anything outside or those black gnats/flies are out in swarms, I turn the AC on. Then I get up the gumption to start looking through my boxes of fabrics and start cutting out quilt pieces for the cold months....or sometimes I design and sew a few mini horse costumes for the parades, nursing home visits, or just a little something new for my own wardrobe!
Of course, I am hard on clothing and need to make repairs to my work clothes....the ones that are my favorites and I cannot part with! The comfy ones! I am also losing weight and need to make a few more alterations to what I am wearing....I feel like I am playing 'dressup' and am a little kid again when I wear some of my clothes!

TH - great on losing some weight, unless you're already a bean pole.
Sitting at a computer terminal at work, and even at home and the sewing machine, I'm starting to look more like a lumpy potato, or at least feel that way when I look in the mirror.
I'm making plans for a bike so I can have a 'fun' reason to get out and exercise. Also, looking into getting back into square dancing. or something like that for the social and exercise and swishy skirt ness of it. Only problem, a square dance partner -

Angie, I am not a beanpole! I used to be though.... After my surgery, I just gave up when I seen that incision running north to south as far as it could go; ruptured appendix. I have decided to loose it again though and this time keep it off if I have to go on a bread and water diet! I could never ride a bike for long, as the seats do not seem to fit me! Even when I was small, there never was a size to fit my behind so I could ride comfortable....that matter has only gotten worse as time and weight goes on. OF course I had plenty of saddles that fit me and those horses just right! Working in the garden is helping me a lot; sweating a lot too...this is the hottest, most humid summer that I can remember in Illinois. Those veggies are being eaten fresh as fast as I can pick them! I loved grilled veggies and they are good for you too. My little quilt pieces are still sitting there looking at me....I started cutting and piecing it by hand over a year ago....it is the little Grandma's Flower Garden but the pieces are only 1 1/2 inches across! My grandmother made one by hand that size and I wanted to do the same. She had three boys....how she ever managed to make that quilt and many others....I can not imagine! Instead of reading, or watching tv last night, I propped myself up on my bed and grabbed some books and recipe cards. I started looking for an old recipe for sour cream sugar cookies....I can eat one of them a day and it curbs my urge for something sweet...I work it off during the day. Needless to say, last night I was hungry ~ for sweets~ when I finally went to bed. Back to the thread: I pick up a lot of odds and ends fabrics during the summer at the yard sales that I have become addicted to. In the winter, I sort them and start cutting again. I make a lot of little charming gifts to give for the holidays, b-days, etc. I help the church make lap quilts for the nursing homes and bibs too. I guess that my passion for sewing is year around in one way or another. I am not much for dancing...never really was for some reason or another. I guess that my love of race cars won over the fancy dresses and other things. When the other girls were covered in makeup and spending all of their hard earned money on that stuff, I was found covered in grease, oil, automotive paint, with the GUYS! Depending on the weather, or season, I wore Daisy Duke shorts (I still do, as my legs are pretty darned good for as old as I am) or jeans; both which I got from yard sales or thrift stores....as I was just going to get them greasy anyways working on those race cars! Well, I am babbling on again.... TH

TH - neat on that sewing - on going. As to the race cars. My dad spent 9 years drag racing, so I've eaten my share of red dust on Saturday, Sunday and Friday and soem times Tuesday evenings or afternoons for 9 years. Now I live about a mile from the area Drag Race Strip... I don't go yard selling, but the interneting of fabric is really hard to resist some times. www.hawaiianfabric.com is one of my most favorite sites to buy fabrics from. Angie

Thank you for the link! I just ordered some of the oriental fabric! I also requested a couple of samples of some of the others.
It has been too hot to do much outside, so I am back into the sewing mood again. I wanted some new tops to wear and since I did not like any of them in the stores...let alone afford what they want for that junk! Well, I making my own tops and from my own design...something that fits me well and is comfortable too! I am a natural fabric addict...so it is either all cotton, silk or wool as a rule. I am making some simple summer tops that are going to be really cool....pretty much straight lines with string ties over the shoulders, a couple of buttons on the front (on a couple of them) and that is about it. I cannot stand a lot of clothing in the hot sun.
IF I happen to see some nice quilting fabric, well, you know...it is grab and tuck it away until later on....can never have too much on hand ya know...

The 100% cotton from the hawaiian folks is the very best that I've felt - I really think you will like it very much.
And if they have any problems they will email or call and make it good for you.
I'm glad you found some fabrics that you liked and could order.
