I'm starting to feel like I am at the mercy of my garden. This is the best garden we have had in years, but...I have to cook, prepare, blanch, freeze or give away all this bounty. It's almost a job!
Yesterday we got our first cabbage. It was huge. Part of it went to stuffed cabbage tonight (with lots of leftovers for the freezer). I am still waiting for our first corn..should be less than a week. The brussel sprouts should also be any day now. My peppers are still going slow. Everything else is going great. I am still drowning in green beans, potaoes and maters.

Too bad you can't mail some of your bounty to me! I'd sure like to have something besides lettuce (I'm not complaining, at least I have lettuce!) from my garden, but I'm still at the point of encouraging the little planties to sprout and GROW! I know canning and preserving is a lot of work, but honestly, don't you feel so much better when you see the pantry shelves lines with beautiful jars, or the freezer full of goodies? I'd hate having to give a bunch away, though. 'Course, usually, I don't have to worry about having an overabundance of anything. I get what the deer and the rabbits let me have! This summer, the ground squirrels have joined the fray. One of them ate the entire middle out of one of my little cabbages. Grrr... But what can you do about squirrels? ~Lannie

Yesterday the Princesses were here and they had a ball picking their favorites to take home. They got every raspberry there was, about 20 pounds of spuds, 6 tomatoes, lots of green beans and 20 ears of corn. They didn't touch anything else! LOL. Kids just don't like things like beets, spinach, squash, onions, zucchini, brussel sprouts etc.
Saturday night my hubby ate 7 ears of corn! Not half ears or little ears..full size silver queen ears. He is a corn nut.
