How's Sam doing? Have you gotten his diabetes under control and how is he tolerating the insulin shots? I think about him often.

wow this is old and i never answered. i just came to the pet forum wondering if i should post.
so i guess i will.
the good news is Sam is still here and appears in good shape. he is down to 75 pounds and holding, which is good. he was at 90 something before.
the bad news is that 2weeks ago in the span of about three days he went completely blind. he navigates the house well. but it is very sad.
when it first happened he often lost track of me in the house and got scared. so i now spend a lot of time talking out loud about what i'm doing. so he knows where i am. i also always leave the radio on, softly, so he can get his bearings quickly when he wakes up.
other than that he is taking it in stride, like he does everything else. it is rather impressive how quickly he has adapted.
he is such a gentle and nice dog. i just hope nothing else happens to him.

Oh Dirty, I'm so glad to hear Sam is still with you and also sorry he's gone blind. He is a lucky dog in the fact that he's got you as his buddy; many people wouldn't handle his medical issues and now the blindness with such compassion . Give him a hug from me, I never met him but I just love that sweet dog!
