The newest member of our family here at Love Acres!
I can't believe how quick the whole thing went. I first saw Bandit hunched (having a contraction) at 4:00 and by 6:05 Cricket was on the ground! I thought it would take longer - I'm so glad I didn't MISS IT!
This was shortly before 6:00. Bandit finally got down to some serious pushing.
"Hey, how do I get this WATERMELON OUT??"
At 5:50 her water broke, and she decided that was just about the yummiest thing she'd ever tasted (vaghaaaaaaaannnnnngggggghhhhhh!). OK, I'm getting over my mucous thing, but that was pretty gooey and the slurping noises were indescribable! AG!
Five minutes later, the first perfect little hoof appeared (and it was right-side up! YAY!).
Followed shortly by the second hoof (and you can just see the tip of her nose).
A little more nose....
More nose... keep pushing, Bandit!
Then all of a sudden, WHOOSH! She was almost out!
Since she was kind of close to the fence, Rich and I moved her a little bit away and pulled her back legs free, so Bandit could meet her new little baby.
Welcome to the world, Little Cricket. May you live a long and happy life with us!
Then "The Licking" began...
OK, I won't post ALL the licking pictures!
A little while later, Cricket started trying to get to her feet. The first few attempts resulted in nose-landings.
Almost there....
SUCCESS! You go Cricket!
Then she started looking for her dinner:
She finally latched on, and got a good bellyfull of colostrum. By then it was too dark to take any more pictures, so I had to stop.
