I saw this link and had to check it out. After looking over the pictures I ordered the e-book for $5.00 and it is very informative. This is probably going to end up being the cabin(with an addition) I build on my land in AR. I already have many of the appliances as well as windows, solar panels and propane tanks. Here's the link, check out the lovely cabin as it was being built along with the space saving interior pics. If you decide you want the full e-book; I can attest that he does send it. www.freewebs.com/simplesolarhomesteading/I think this pic of the finished cabin is really neat.

That's a cute little cabin but where's the bathroom? Does it come with a little privy around back?

I love it. I would rather live in a small space. DH is the one who got carried away when we built this house.
How long do you think it will be before you get to start your cabin?

That's a cute little cabin but where's the bathroom? Does it come with a little privy around back? Dave, I'm going to build little 'reading rooms' around the 15 acres so I don't have to hike back to the house every time nature calls. They're also good places to get away from angry squirrels and the occasional bear. But there is a 5 X7 corner (I think that's the measurement) bathroom with shower in the cabin. I think in the picture list, the footprint is shown with just the studs; the bath hadn't been finished yet. I don't mind compact and rustic but an outdoor privy as the sole bath facility would be a bit too primative for my tastes.

Kathy - this is really a neat looking little cabin.
I'm going to have to check out their website.

Momo, I missed your question earlier. I hope to start sometime in early 2010 unless the economy really tanks & I'm without a job/ home here in IA; then I'll be camping there in a tent so I'll have plenty of time to work on it. I am also looking at buying a very inexpensive travel trailer to put on the property while I'm building. Just something with more solid walls and a way to keep the snakes, bears & bugs out. ;D I found a couple of 20 to 24' ones for less than $2000 each & everything works & they didn't leak! I guess people are selling their non essential 'toys' and RV's are dropping in price. Angie, if you could find some land, that would be the ideal size for you And your sewing machines. You might have to put an addition on the side for your fabric stash though.

He made it through the cold winter we just had....ah, still have and it is so cute....practical and I want one too! I like the ones that look like a log house.....hhhmmm, if I keep cutting down the trees....just maybe..... TH

I will be making sure there's a shelter with walls and a roof for friends who want to visit the backwoods of AR. It may not be as 'fancy' as my cabin but it will be comfortable & there is a lot of land for hiking and to keep amateur photographers happy.

I think that there will be a lot of people moving into cabins like these....especially since any building on skids is NOT TAXABLE!!! Truthfully, I want to try living in a yurt! TH
