I like to grow chives. They help keep bugs out of the flowers, and they are so easy to use.
Just snip, wash, cut up, and throw into any dish you'd like.
They are my favorite onion to use. They can be cut with scissors. No tears, no mess, no onion smell on the cutting board.
Can you tell I like them?

I grow chives, rosemary and basil in my kitchen. Nothing is better than snipping some fresh herbs for cooking! I can almost smell them just talking about it.

I grew chives, cilantro, 4 kinds of basil, oregano, 2 kinds of mint, marjoram and tarragon this last year. There's nothing like the scent & flavor of fresh herbs. It just makes cooking so much more fun IMO. I love chopping chives up and mixing them with sour cream for baked potatoes. I've also sprinkled them on the cheese for quesadilla's when I didn't have any onions handy.

I discovered Greek oregano a couple of years ago, and like it, too. I am so glad that most of the herbs come back each year. I've got some in pots on the deck and then the chives or garlic in the containers which have roses or camellias. I had leeks growing next to the tomatoes this year, and had no trouble with pests on the tomatoes.
That's a good idea to use the chives on the quesadillas. I tend to eat mine plain.
Do either of you put herbs in your soaps? I've been thinking of putting lavender or rosemary in a soap batch.

I've used chamomille and lavender in my soaps. I have a slight allergy to rosemary so I never tried it in soaps.

Kathy, do you infuse the herbs in the oils, make tea to use for the water, or just put the flowers/leaves into the soap, or ?

Actually, I use my Vitamix and whirl them up so they're a fine powder and mix in as one would oatmeal or pumice. Usually, along with the actual herb powder, I will use the coordinating/complementary essential oil.

Kathy, you do make fancy soaps! What a nice thing to do with the herbs.
Do you use your mint for soap?
I grow stevia and eat the leaves sometimes. I need to make better use of it.
I haven't used the Greek oregano or lemon mint this year.
It's about time to pick the leaves off of everything before it's too late.
