I lost three yesterday for no aparent reason. I have done every thing I know to do to make it right for them From what I've seen, your set up and feed looks exactly like it should for success. Were they all pooping ok, or was there some pasting up of the vents? That's the only thing I've seen that would give a sudden kill. Otherwise, these three may have had some internal injuries from shipping and it just took a while for it to kill them.

Put a little apple cider vinegar in the water. Maybe a tsp per qt. And boil and mash an egg for them... Hope they're better soon and you don't lose any more.

Bob, hang in there. I have not chimed in because I am having your luck only I still have not gotten my Feb17th chicks yet. I have gotten couple of dead shippments (late deliveries) Note these have been insured and the PO lady gets to see and confirm the death rates. By the way the hardest part of the insurance papers is explaining the value as the price list is zero because these orders are repeated replacements for paid for birds. Well maybe Friday. I have done all that I can think of to improve my odd. But I must admit I was not a happy camper when last monday when they were to be shipped again and I got a call saying The assortment would not be assorted but just one color. NO I was not happy as the only color that they would have sent would have been the only color I do not care for in the assorment. I pick the assortment to get the colors I wanted at a cheap rate not to pay for colors that I do not like.
I believe that My PO mistress is taking the doa's personally and will be handling the unknown reason for the delays now. Some how having to stand there and count 98 dead chicks out of 103 and of the 5 alive 2 were just able to open their mouth and gasp. Not a pleasent way to start ones day at 7am. But it got her to make a few calls.

sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope they can get it right soon for you.
my little guys seem kinda wild. they are not as tame as past chicks have been. I think this is due to the rareity of the marrans. they are selling anything they can. I dought if their parents were culled as hard as common breeds

Boy, Maran's do taste good!
Bob, when I had some Maran's, they were not at all friendly either.. even with lots of handling.
I ended up eating all mine because they were just too aggressive for my mixed flock....they liked to beat up our turkeys,,,goats, sheep,,, what ever. Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
Not all lines are like that so I have been told. But I did want you to know in case they start getting not so friendly when they are older.

I went to a small animal sale today. I took a few fryer rabbits and brought home two pair of guineas to go with the one lonely male guinea we have
we still have 30 keets coming in june
I hope they do well as I will need them to be able to live in the timber with all the ticks and bugs

I'm as bad as Kaza, I was wondering about weight and had this vision of dressing. They are looking good Bob. But you probably shouldn't let either of us near them.

I noticed that the two had yellow legs . I supose the breeding on them isnt that tight yet. this was the first year that privvit offered marans for sale
as my grandpa would say," their good enough for the girls we go out with" he used to tell me that all the time, now ,not so much. I think it is funnyer now than ever. I supose he is just more than a little disapointed with me. not shuckin out all the grandkids like my sister
can you tell yesterday was a non pagen holiday? I love my family but it will take me a few days to recover from the little comments that are popping up at a family getogether like that
they put up with me so I can put up with them. dont get me wrong we all love each other very much. but sometimes I feel like we have abbsolutely nothing in common, which I know is totaly wrong
where did all that come from? wernt we talking about chickens with yellow legs? I guess I feel like I am one of the ones with yellow leggs and the rest of my family has white
