now they are telling me it will be the 17th before i get my chicks . I have a 300 gal. rubbermaid stock tank I will put them in. a heat lamp with a red bulb 4small feeders and a 3 gal waterer ready to go. I stillneed to get a termometer to adjust the light up of down for the heat
I have plenty of wood shavings from our plainer in the wood shop, but they are oak . I have heard that oak can harbour E-Coli bacteria . has anyone heard the same thing .should I use what I have or go buy some pine shavings?

Bob, I've always used pine shavings for my chicks & other young poultry. Just to be safe and since these little ones are a rarer breed-I'd suggest getting the pine shavings and saving the oak for your hen house floor.

if you want to know why I have the tank setting on wood shavings it is because it is in my dads wood shop. it will keep cold from coming up threw the floor ..

Americanas are nice birds too-hopefully you'll get some neat colored eggs! So will they be shipping your chicks out today or ?? I loved opening my egg cartons in the morning-light brown, beige, dark brown, green, blu and one pink egg greeted me!

Gosh, This is more of a pins & needles event than when someone is pregnant!! It's like you keep going into false labor and keep getting sent home to wait! Well, you could have them add 10 Americana's to that shipment! Good Luck and try to stay calm-deep breaths....
